Clearing the Smoke: The Science of Cannabis

Montana PBS‘s new documentary, Clearing the Smoke, reveals how cannabis acts on the brain and in the body to treat nausea, pain, epilepsy and potentially even cancer.

Extensive interviews with patients, doctors, researchers and skeptics detail the promises and the limitations of medicinal cannabis. Even though the video has an American perspective, marijuana use is illegal throughout many countries of the world for reasons that are not clear.

This video is important because it mainly investigates the scientific basis underlying the medical benefits of marijuana use instead of focusing on the social, political and legal hysteria that have been attached to it.

Molecular Biologist Explains How THC Completely Kills Cancer Cells

Cannabinoids refer to any group of related compounds that include cannabinol and the active constituents of cannabis. They activate cannabinoid receptors in the body.

The body itself produces compounds called endocannabinoids and they play a role in many processes within the body that help to create a healthy environment.

Cannabinoids have been proven to reduce cancer cells as they have a great impact on the rebuilding of the immune system. Although not every strain of cannabis has the same effect, more and more patients are seeing success in cancer reduction in a short period of time by using cannabis.

Contrary to popular belief, smoking cannabis does not assist a great deal in treating disease within the body as therapeutic levels cannot be reached through smoking.

Creating oil from the plant or eating the plant is the best way to go about getting the necessary ingredients, the cannabinoids.

The world has come a long way with with regards to accepting this plant as a medicine rather than a harmful substance. It’s a plant that could benefit the planet in more ways than one.

Cannabis is not something offered in the same regard as chemotherapy, but more people are becoming aware if it, which is why it’s so important to continue to spread information like this. Nobody can really deny the tremendous healing power of this plant.

Edward Snowden Receives the Norwegian Freedom of Speech Prize

This year’s Academy of Literature and Freedom of Expression Bjornson prize went to Snowden, who in his address to the audience disputed accusations that his whistleblowing was done to damage the US or get back against its intelligence services.

Snowden said that as he became increasingly exposed to top secret material, he noted that the statements offered on a number of issues by the US establishment were not “simply untrue” but raised questions as to how the US was “interpreting the law.”

“And this is fundamentally dangerous. It is about more than just surveillance, I think. It is about democracy. It is about the relationship between the governed and the governing,” Snowden said.

While critiquing US mass data collection and spying on “everyone” 24/7, Snowden said that he remains a patriot whose duty is to protect freedom of speech and inform the public. At the same time in the United States, he faces up to 30 years in prison on charges of espionage and theft of government property.

When Russia Plays by the West’s Rules, It Loses

In a recent op-ed for Czech online newspaper Nova Republika, Slovak-Ukrainian politician, writer and political analyst Sergei Chelemendik suggested that it’s time for Russia to stop playing the game of geopolitics according to the rules established by the West.

Looking to history for examples, Chelemendik recalled that “this is how all the great conquerors and empires acted, long before the globalists and neoconservatives and even before Genghis Khan.”

“And if we are talking about Russian history,” he noted, “we can remember how Peter the Great changed the rules of the game in Europe, making Russia into a new actor in international politics by creating a fleet and a powerful regular army, defeating the previously invincible King of Sweden, and forming the foundations of Russia as a new empire. After that, Russia defeated Napoleon, and once again set up its own rules for Europe, remembered in history as the Holy Alliance” between the imperial powers of Russia, Prussia and Austria.

“Following the Russian Revolution and the world wars, the Soviet empire was born, which once again dictated its own set of rules to the world. These had different names – the Warsaw Pact, the international communist movement, the People’s Democracies, the struggle against imperialism, but they were all rules that the USSR brought to the world, and the world was forced to at least in some measure play by them.”

Playing by Someone Else’s Rules

The writer also noted that “today we have witnessed the last attempts by Russia to act in Europe according to someone else’s rules, which we can conditionally call liberal parliamentary democracy, globalism, and a secret world oligarchy.” In his view, “Russia cannot win at such a game.”

Recalling “some commonly-known facts,” Chelemendik explained that “the United States, which continues to dictate its rules to the entire world and cutely calls this process Full Spectrum Dominance, completely controls the European elite. With some simplification, it can be said that the US controls Europe as a geopolitical entity. Europe is ruled by American puppets, and not by vassals, as is often said, since vassals have at least some, albeit limited, sovereignty, capable of changing their masters, of creating unions, while puppets cannot. And European politicians today are, with few exceptions, puppets” on the strings of Washington and a globalist oligarchy.

The writer noted that recent events in Greece, “the illustrative episode of Alexis Tsipras and his infamous rebellion against the dictates of Brussels, demonstrates who controls Europe and how, what resources they have and what they are capable of. The reality is that they can do anything and everything they want.”

Legendary Tesla Towers are Operational in Russia

Many people still dream about wireless power transmission that Nikola Tesla developed back in 1970s. Scientists are still puzzled how the genius scientists managed to do this, however the “Wardenclyffe Tower” or more popular name Tesla Tower was built on the Manhattan Island in 1900’s. Project was never completed, most likely due to lack of money income for his experiments. He believed that his Tower projects would be the most effective electric systems in world where he could produce and transfer vast amount of energy across great distances. Imagine the world without all those electrical cables in household, neighborhood and between cities? It sounds great, and that’s just what he had in mind!

Today scientists are close to wireless power transmission dream of genius Nikola Tesla. Funny thing is the person that is making the most progress on this area is again a person from Croatia, young scientist called Marin Soljačić. If Soljačić team manages to complete their wireless transmission it will be another scientific breakthrough that will change our world beyond recognition, to a better stance we hope!

What Tesla had in mind and never managed to complete beyond mere trials is what now Croatian scientist might manage to do. With already built Tesla towers in Russia that have the option to store electrical energy but still need to transmit it via cables, we might be entering a new era of development of human civilization.

If you want to see how Tesla towers look like you can see them just 40km from Moscow and at the moment this is the only example of such electric generators in the world, and yeah it’s energy can supply the entire Russia (however just for 100 microseconds).

The Draconian and Kafkaesque Case Against Julian Assange

By John Pilger

The persecution of Julian Assange is about to flare again as it enters a dangerous stage. From August 20, three quarters of the Swedish prosecutor’s case against Assange regarding sexual misconduct in 2010 will disappear as the statute of limitations expires. At the same time Washington’s obsession with Assange and WikiLeaks has intensified. Indeed, it is vindictive American power that offers the greatest threat – as Chelsea Manning and those still held in Guantanamo can attest.

The Americans are pursuing Assange because WikiLeaks exposed their epic crimes in Afghanistan and Iraq: the wholesale killing of tens of thousands of civilians, which they covered up, and their contempt for sovereignty and international law, as demonstrated vividly in their leaked diplomatic cables.

[…]

According to documents released by Snowden, Assange is on a “Manhunt target list”. Washington’s bid to get him, say Australian diplomatic cables, is “unprecedented in scale and nature”. In Alexandria, Virginia, a secret grand jury has spent five years attempting to contrive a crime for which Assange can be prosecuted. This is not easy. The First Amendment to the US Constitution protects publishers, journalists and whistleblowers.

[…]

Assange’s ability to defend himself in this Kafkaesque world has been handicapped by the US declaring his case a state secret. In March, a federal court in Washington blocked the release of all information about the “national security” investigation against WikiLeaks, because it was “active and ongoing” and would harm the “pending prosecution” of Assange. The judge, Barbara J. Rosthstein, said it was necessary to show “appropriate deference to the executive in matters of national security”. Such is the “justice” of a kangaroo court.

The supporting act in this grim farce is Sweden, played by the Swedish prosecutor Marianne Ny. Until recently, Ny refused to comply with a routine European procedure routine that required her to travel to London to question Assange and so advance the case. For four and a half years, Ny has never properly explained why she has refused to come to London, just as the Swedish authorities have never explained why they refuse to give Assange a guarantee that they will not extradite him on to the US under a secret arrangement agreed between Stockholm and Washington. In December 2010, The Independent revealed that the two governments had discussed his onward extradition to the US.

[…]

Why hasn’t the Swedish prosecutor resolved the Assange case? Many in the legal community in Sweden believe her behaviour inexplicable. Once implacably hostile to Assange, the Swedish press has published headlines such as: “Go to London, for God’s sake.”

Why hasn’t she? More to the point, why won’t she allow the Swedish court access to hundreds of SMS messages that the police extracted from the phone of one of the two women involved in the misconduct allegations? Why won’t she hand them over to Assange’s Swedish lawyers? She says she is not legally required to do so until a formal charge is laid and she has questioned him. Then, why doesn’t she question him? And if she did question him, the conditions she would demand of him and his lawyers – that they could not challenge her – would make injustice a near certainty.

On a point of law, the Swedish Supreme Court has decided Ny can continue to obstruct on the vital issue of the SMS messages. This will now go to the European Court of Human Rights. What Ny fears is that the SMS messages will destroy her case against Assange. One of the messages makes clear that one of the women did not want any charges brought against Assange, “but the police were keen on getting a hold on him”. She was “shocked” when they arrested him because she only “wanted him to take [an HIV] test”. She “did not want to accuse JA of anything” and “it was the police who made up the charges”. (In a witness statement, she is quoted as saying that she had been “railroaded by police and others around her”.)

Neither woman claimed she had been raped. Indeed, both have denied they were raped and one of them has since tweeted, “I have not been raped.” That they were manipulated by police and their wishes ignored is evident – whatever their lawyers might say now. Certainly, they are victims of a saga which blights the reputation of Sweden itself.

For Assange, his only trial has been trial by media. On August 20, 2010, the Swedish police opened a “rape investigation” and immediately – and unlawfully – told the Stockholm tabloids that there was a warrant for Assange’s arrest for the “rape of two women”. This was the news that went round the world.

Obama Authorises Airstrikes on Assad Troops

(Screenshot from the video below)

The US president has reportedly authorized the Air Force to protect Syrian rebels trained by Washington to fight against Islamic State by bombing any force attacking them, including Syrian regular troops.

The US is the Enemy of the Enemies of ISIS

One reason that Al Qaeda and ISIS are strong is that US attacks on Muslim countries create the conditions of chaos in which they flourish. Another is that the US government has been more interested in undermining nations that happen to be enemies of Al Qaeda and ISIS that in fighting Al Qaeda and ISIS.

The latest example of this is President Obama’s support of the Turkish government in its attack on the Kurdish people. The Kurds are dedicated and effective enemies of ISIS and support democracy, religious toleration and women’s rights, which are supposedly the ideals the US government represents.

But Kurdish nationalism threatens the unity of Turkey, and the support of Turkey is essential to the covert war being waged by the United States against Syria, whose government also is an enemy of ISIS.

The “war on terror” which the United States began on Sept. 12, 2001, is on the one hand so urgent that we Americans are being asked to give up basic Constitutional liberties, but on the other hand not important enough to distract from overthrowing regimes that Washington has targeted — first Saddam, then Qadaffi and now Assad.
